Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. understand and explain the importance of detecting misconceptions in students’ fraction magnitude knowledge;
  2. identify the types of misconceptions related to students’ knowledge of whole numbers; and
  3. interpret diagnostic data to detect students’ misconceptions and design interventions.

Description

We report on the development and validation of a classroom-based diagnostic test designed to assess students’ fraction magnitude knowledge. Teachers use data to understand students’ misconceptions and design targeted interventions.
