Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. understand the prevalence, symptoms, and impact of mild traumatic brain injuries or concussions on youth in schools;
  2. synthesize data from current practitioners reflecting their perceptions of the school psychologist’s role and responsibilities to support youth reentry to learning after a mild traumatic brain or concussion injury; and
  3. apply practical strategies for school reentry following a youth’s mild traumatic brain or concussion injury (e.g., how to facilitate communication between family, health and athletic staff, how to engage in student progress monitoring).

Description

A nationwide survey of practicing school psychologists investigates their current roles in supporting students’ return to classroom and learning plans following mild traumatic brain or concussion injuries.
