  1. understand the paradoxical relation between engagement and achievement for Black/African American students;
  2. review current research evaluating this paradox; and
  3. understand the potential reasons for this paradox.

Description

Studies show that Black students report higher engagement yet lower academic achievement than White students. This review will analyze articles that evaluated this paradox as well as their proposed reasons.
