Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. learn about the mental health supports that can be provided to youth involved in IDCs to help them cope with trauma and promote healthy development and adjustment to their new school experiences;
  2. increase their awareness about the different adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) types detained youth have experienced prior to entering public schools; and
  3. learn about the level/type of mental health services youth involved with IDCs have experienced prior to entering public schools.

Description

This presentation reports the results of a qualitative study where workers of immigration detention centers (IDCs) share the traumas immigrant youth face prior to entering U.S. public schools.
