  1. participants will critique the ways DI methods might support CRP goals;
  2. participants will explore the elements of direct instruction methods to engage diverse learners in meaningful ways; and
  3. participants will examine the goals and teacher beliefs necessary to infuse culturally relevant pedagogies that support achievement, engagement, and empowerment of diverse learners.

Description

Direct instruction has been criticized as too scripted, militaristic, and disruptive of natural curiosity. This paper critiques whether DI methods can in fact help facilitate culturally relevant pedagogy.
