Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. learn implications for practice, including ways to facilitate various types of supportive behaviors across various settings and sources of support (i.e., parents, classmates, teachers) that may best support student outcomes;
  2. learn which types of supportive behaviors are associated with mental health outcomes in adolescents; and
  3. learn about whether deficits in type of support available to youth from one source can be compensated by having support from another person.

Description

This study explored social support compensation, or whether specific types of support from one person (e.g., parents) can buffer against deficits in types of support from others (e.g., teachers).
