- Poster Session 6: Promoting Social and Emotional Development
Learner Objectives
This session will help participants…
- describe how the conception of trauma and trauma-informed practices have evolved over time;
- broaden their understanding of trauma to account for the impact of racism, including the (re)traumatization of BIPOC students in schools via disciplinary action;
- identify the association between trauma-informed interventions in U.S. K–12 schools and ODR rates for whole student populations, and for racially and ethnically minoritized students specifically; and
- advocate for more equitable trauma-informed interventions, practices, and policies in their respective research or practice environments.
Description
Trauma has always impacted students, but has only recently become central in education due to increasingly inequitable societal events. Participants will learn the importance of centering equity in trauma-informed practices.
