  1. differentiate social–emotional learning (SEL) competencies, including self-awareness and empathy;
  2. describe the relation between self-awareness and student ethnicity on self-reported empathy scores; and
  3. identify future directions of culturally responsive SEL practices for ethnically diverse youth that support SEL competency development.
