Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. recognize anti-LGBTQIA+ microaggressions and understand factors related to microaggression perpetration in school settings;
  2. learn how to use psychological principles to build and support inclusive school culture for all students;
  3. learn how to leverage social norms to prevent anti-LGBTQIA+ microaggressions and other prejudicial behaviors, as outlined in Domain 8 of the NASP Practice Model; and
  4. promote awareness of microaggressions toward LGBTQIA+ students and the ongoing need to create safe, supportive schools, as outlined in Domain 8 of the NASP Practice Model.

Description

How are microaggressions, prejudice, and personality linked? Participants will learn how to use psychological science to understand—and prevent—educator microaggressions toward LGBTQIA+ youth in pre-K–12 schools.
