Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. gain an understanding of the various types of language and communication preferences utilized by Deaf children and families;
  2. recognize how Deaf culture often plays a role in school-based evaluations;
  3. learn how to make practical adaptations to school-based evaluations to better accommodate Deaf children;
  4. learn how to effectively present their evaluation findings to school support professionals for accommodations in school settings; and
  5. learn the most effective ways to collaborate and perform evaluations with ASL Interpreters.

Description

School psychologists must modify their assessment repertoire to reflect the populations they serve. This presentation will provide practical and useful solutions for accommodating and conducting psychoeducational assessment with Deaf students.
