Leadership is not a title; it is a behavior. Many of us are accidental leaders; although we may engage in leadership behaviors in the course of doing our work, we may not know how to use these skills in an intentional or effective way. There are many benefits to schools when school psychologists embrace their leadership potential. Awareness of the different leadership models can provide practitioners with a practical foundation to help decide which approaches will work best in their schools. Following a brief overview of major leadership models, the presenter will discuss effective leadership skills needed for advocacy, systems change, and school improvement.

Workshop Objectives:

This session will help participants

1. learn how to be leaders at a school, district, state, or national level;
2. learn how to develop and improve their leadership skills; and
3. learn how effective leadership skills are needed for successful advocacy and systems change.

Practical Tools

Attendees will learn about the major leadership theories that are most relevant for school psychologists and will be provided with information regarding effective leadership skills. Because most school psychologists already possess these skills, this workshop will help them to deploy them in an effective manner.
