Abstract

In the current study, various bullying role behaviors and prosocial behavior were examined in a semi-longitudinal design. Prosociality and bullying victimization at time 1 were significantly and positively related to defending behavior at time 2. Victimization (time 1) was also positively related to outsider behavior at time 2, while prosociality at time 1 was negatively related to outsider behavior at time 2. Additionally, a significant interaction between gender and prosociality was found when predicting time 2 outsider behavior. This research may help inform efforts by school staff to help students respond more effectively to bullying situations.
